Getting your wisdom teeth removed can be a quite the experience. You are most likely nervous because you have heard a lot of horror stories about people that have gotten their wisdom teeth removed and had bad side effects. The fact of the matter is that they need to be removed or they could cause you a lot of pain in the future, and can cause dental crowding. They have also been known to take straight teeth and make them crooked. So, it is time to get the wisdom teeth removed. Do not be worried, but there are a few things that you should do to prepare for this event. Here are just a few tips to help you while you go through the wisdom teeth removal and the recovery.

Know the Methods

There are two different things that you can experience when you go in to get your wisdom teeth removed. Some dentists like to numb the entire mouth and go to work. This can be interesting because you are awake during the entire process, but you do not feel anything at that time. Some people really like this method because they can hear the dentist work, and they can experience what it is like. Other dentists like to put their clients under with anesthesia. If this is the way that your dentist works, you will be out for the entire thing, and won't remember anything until a few minutes after the surgery.

Prepare For Home

One of the most important things that you can do is to prepare for your recovery at home. It would be a good idea to try and schedule the appointment for as close to the weekend as possible so your recovery can go over a weekend. So, to get ready for the recovery make sure that you get all of your favorite soft snacks; pudding, jello, popsicles, anything that is soft and can be eaten easily.

Do not go with anything that you have to suck on. Sucking can remove the scabs from the wisdom teeth, and you can get "dry socket" which is extremely painful. So, just get the foods that are easy to eat. It is also a great idea to get your favorite movies and television shows, as you are not going to want to do much for a few days after you have your surgery. This will just make your recovery a little bit more enjoyable.
